Master of Fine Arts
Fine Arts, Toi Māori, Photography
Whakaahua (photographs) are waka ātea. Craft to traverse space, enmeshed with time; relative, and relational; wā, wātea. With a pulse of light I expose on-location photograms in our environment. In whenua, ngahere, awa and moana. The taiao is both camera and darkroom. Maramataka, the Māori lunar calendar is my methodology. Ka rongo, listen to the whakapapa of our atua. My mahi explores foundational paradigms between te ao Māori and photography, an indigenous medium.
